Sonoma Wire Works StudioTrack: Turning the iPad into a Musical Idea Hub
Broadcast The highly anticipated and much hyped iPad has just been made available to consumers. Given that musicians have experienced a lot of utility with the iPhone, the expressive potential of the iPad is highly sought after. With that being the case, various iPad applications have sprouted prior to its release. One of these applications turns the iPad into a portable recording studio thanks to Sonoma Wire Works StudioTrack.

StudioTrack can be described as a sketchpad for songwriters armed with iPads. It provides a total of eight tracks for recording. Each channel on StudioTrack includes a reverb send and a configurable effects rack, making the application useful for preliminary multitrack recording and mixing.

Call For Submissions: IMSTA Song Competition: A Major Label Contract Up For Grabs
Broadcast Songwriters have hermitic tendencies, tending to shy away from the public eye, confining themselves into their own world with just their instrument in hand. All of these things that songwriters do to hone their craft, all that investment in gear, and all the ego-busting criticism some songwriters go through can all be poured into one song. If you happen to think you've got gold written in pen and paper or recorded inside a tape or your own computer, better consider coming out of your shell to join the IMSTA Song Competition.

The International Music Software Trade Association (IMSTA) in cooperation with chart-topping artist Akon's HITLAB has just provided a grand opportunity for songwriters/musicians all over the world to participate in a unique and exciting songwriting competition. The IMSTA Song Competition is calling out all songwriters and musicians who have high-quality demos or master recordings of their original songs to submit their material for a chance to win a contract with a major label.

CEntrance DACport: High Resolution Realized In Portable Proportions
Broadcast There are lots of instances, from recording to even playback, that your laptop's onboard sound just won't make the cut. Due to the very nature of their construction, everything from high-speed external hard drives to professional USB audio interfaces are needed for laptops to work as a professional recording rig. Even so, the listening experience can even be hampered by using audiophile-grade headphones on laptops, only for the listener to become disappointed despite what the numbers report. CEntrance DACport, a new USB headphone amplifier, has been is released to solve that problem.

The makers of the MicPort Pro and AxePort Pro have created another USB preamp of sorts, this time going towards the output direction. The CEntrance DACport is described by its makers as "an audiophile-quality, stereo 24-bit / 96kHz Digital-to-Analogue converter (DAC) with exceptional jitter management, resulting in extreme clarity and revealing musical detail. Its professional 1/4" output offers the highest quality headphone connection."

Waves WavesLive MultiRack Native: Software Studio Apps Run Wild And Live
Broadcast Waves has been one of those distributors of premium (both in sound and price) effects plugins. As major players in the music industry have collaborated at one point with Waves, it is not surprising that certain individuals would want to have software applications from Waves running things in live venues. If instrumentalists can have the benefit of having all of their amps, synths, effects, and whatnot into space-saving plugin format, so can those individuals doing the sound away from the stage. The Waves WavesLive MultiRack Native makes that possible.

WavesLive MultiRack Native is the first software application of its kind that lets FOH and Monitor engineers run multiple simultaneous instances of the same Native Waves plug-ins. With only a laptop, I/O box, and MultiRack Native and Waves plug-ins, Waves users can now run live shows and shape sounds for the live stage with precision, eliminating the need for heavy hardware.

iZotope Music & Speech Cleaner: Clearing Up Foggy Memories
Broadcast Memories captured on home video recording equipment are cherished by a lot of people. The noise of a rushing wind, however, due to a lack of a windbreaker in consumer video recording equipment is something you would not miss. This is often distracting and takes away that experience of reliving that cherished moment, and so iZotope, a leader in DSP applications is putting out the new iZotope Music & Speech Cleaner.

Something Else Says 'Help Save WLUW'
Broadcast We've mentioned the Something Else radio show on WLUW out of Chicago on several occasions in the past; host Phillip von Zweck has done an excellent job of showcasing experimental artists from Chicago and beyond on the program, and it's freely streamed across the web. Now though, WLUW appears to be in trouble, and von Zweck has sent out a request for help: "WLUW is the community and student oriented radio station of Loyola University, Chicago. The University has recently decided to stop funding the station. WLUW is now responsible for generating our own operating budget. Without your help WLUW will die. Please send a letter of support for the station to somethingelse@wluw.org and I will forward them to the station managment. Please forward this message as we need to generate as much support as possible and we may not have much time."
