Looking Back At 2009, Looking Forward To 2010
New or Unlisted Topic The year 2009 was indeed interesting. The world was struggling with numerous challenges. The United States bore witness to the ascension of the first African-American President yet was immediately confronted by the result of years of disastrous events. Various scandals arose here and there and almost everywhere. Political turmoil, economic depression, natural disasters, civil disorder; describing all of these things as disastrous is truly an understatement. In spite of all the things that have happened, for the music and pro audio community saw it as a challenge to bring about innovation and keep on making music.

The admirable thing about 2009 is the spirit of innovation and cooperation. The challenges of the times led people to make the most about what they have. Examples include the rise to fame of the iPhone as a respectable musical aid. Applications that garnered the respect of the music community have been developed left and right that the iPhone could be described by people afflicted by GAS (if you're not aware, it's Gear Acquisition Syndrome) as a must-have. Sample library makers such as Detunized and Tonehammer have become creative enough to utilize whatever they can pull out of the scrap heap to make great tools for great music. Even freeware developers pushed their standards up to give commercial firms a run for their money.

    Diamond Pedals Tremolo Now Shipping
New or Unlisted Topic In some perspectives, hardware is really irreplaceable despite advances in software emulation. After all, the immediacy of a hardware pedal can't really be beaten by a software emulation. Appealing to Surf Rock aficionados as well as other guitar players, the new Diamond Pedals Tremolo is now being shipped out to authorized resellers worldwide.

What makes the Diamond Pedals Tremolo stand out is that 100% analog signal path that features an optoisolator similar to vintage guitar amplifiers. This is then combined with a microprocessor control circuit that provides a great deal of control not found in traditional tremolo control circuits while maintaining that cherished analog signal path.

Post-Snakes-And-Arrows-Rush: A Time Of Relaxation And A New Direction?
New or Unlisted Topic If there were any trios or progressive rock dinosaurs that still haven't been tampered with or remain to be intact, it has got to be none other than Rush. The trio of legendary musicians Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart is so glued together that no matter what direction they take, they remain solid. Having said so, it really is absurd that the band hasn't been inducted into the prog-rock-hating, shamefully biased, and hardly credible Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Anyway, Rush doesn't seem to mind all that and they're moving on to the next chapter after their latest album "Snakes And Arrows" and the subsequent tour.

Even though number-one-crazy-fan and Snakes-And-Arrows producer Nick Raskulinecz has been lobbying for Rush to create another concept masterpiece, Rush is at this point saying that it's an idea that they would entertain least consideration. Neil Peart has indicated that today's music world has reverted to the esthetic of the 1950s where the song is king and not the album. It's sad to note that radio, the internet (downloads), and "shuffle" settings in today's music players follow the esthetic of a single-oriented musical thinking. It's true that gone are the days when you have to listen through an entire vinyl or tape to get to know what a musical artist is expressing. Today's music industry doesn't really give a damn to the "dreaded" idea of the concept album. In veering away from the concept-album route, Rush is into exploring new ground to reinvent themselves again.
