Thermionic Culture Earlybird 4: Getting the Worm As Clean As Possible

The most sought after sound today in a microphone preamp is warm and clean at the same time. Something about tubes gets into that harmonic spectrum well, just like sympathetic strings on some instruments, and adds that more human element that is pleasing to the ear. The new Thermionic Culture Earlybird 4 offers that nice dosing of clean tube warmth that always allows microphone users to get that sweet spot.
The Earlybird 4 is a four-channel all-valve (or all-tube) preamp. This preamp makes use of Class A bias valves in a push-pull circuit and has specially designed Sowter transformers that help it make the claim of achieving under 0.01% distortion. Vic Keary of Thermionic Culture explains that using The Earlybird 4 is like connecting a pair of wires with gain to a microphone.
Earlybird 4 has a high output level of +32dB. The preamp can also be pushed to produce 2nd-order harmonics by increasing mic gain and reducing output gain. Switched gain controls on the Earlybird 4 give out a maximum of 64dB of mic gain and a variable output along with pads, phase, 300 & 1200 ohm impedance and stepped filter. This is completed with a pair of meters that can be switched between the four channels.
The Thermionic Culture Earlybird 4's pricing and availability are TBA.
