As soon as plastic hit the market many, many years ago, it was king. From packaging to all-purpose tools and equipment, they still are all the rage with its ability to be molded into any shape or form. It's not surprising that plastic became one of the major raw materials for some professional audio gear and some musical equipment that people malign as toys, one of them being the Casio SK-1. Its natural cheesiness and cheap sound crossed over from being a toy to becoming a professional musician's curiosity, and the new Retronyms "Synth" brings back the glory of the Casio SK-1 to the iPad.
"Synth" is a new virtual instrument for the Apple iPad. It claims to have 40 instruments and is controllable via the onscreen keyboard and mod wheel. It has its own built-in adjustable delay and distortion as effects to spice up the sounds that are included. Paying homage to the Casio SK-1, "Synth" also has a sampler function. Users just have to make use of the microphone to sample any sound source and start playing the sample through "Synth".
Retronyms Synth is available through the Apple iTunes App Store and costs 0.99 USD.
