Vibesware GR-1 Guitar Resonator: A New Breed of Guitar Sustainers?

In the history of music and pro audio technology, there have been famous "duels" such as "PC versus Mac", "Moog versus ARP, "Fender versus Gibson", and a whole host of competitive pairings that leave users of such technologies interested and intrigued. The field of guitar sustainers is not exempt from such similar forms of competition as the famous EBow is now up against something that claims it is better. The new Vibesware GR-1 Guitar Resonator promises some seriously powerful features that aim to give EBow a run for its money.
The GR-1 Guitar Resonator is a new sustainer device for the electric guitar. It works in the same way as all guitar sustainers do: through controlled guitar feedback. This controlled guitar feedback agitates the strings via a magnetic field from the GR-1's stand-mounted string driver. Nothing new, right? First of all, the GR-1 Guitar Resonator is capable of multiple string agitation therefore things such as infinitely sounding chords are possible, unlike the EBow's monophonic approach. It is much more similar in operation to standing in front of your cabinets for feedback effects as the string driver is mounted on a stand, allowing for more intuitive playing with little change in your natural technique which is different from the handheld EBow approach. While the Fernandes Sustainer requires radical modification of the guitar, the GR-1 Guitar Resonator is a standalone device that doesn't require any modifications of the guitar's body.
The GR-1 Guitar Resonator is a separate standalone unit and therefore any guitar that has steel strings and a pickup can be used with it. More than just guitars equipped with magnetic single coils and humbuckers, the GR-1 can also work with piezo-fitted acoustic-electric guitars. The GR-1 is powered via an external power supply so it is capable of creating more powerful magnetic fields compared to other sustainers. Feedback harmonics can be controlled via playing technique or a phase shifting feature and can also be optionally controlled via a foot controller. Famous users include Uli Jon Roth, Roine Stolt, and Ian Crichton of Saga.
