Among one of the world's most famous guitarists, Slash is a pop culture icon. More than having such popularity, Slash's guitar playing the Guns 'N Roses album "Appetite for Destruction" had a characteristic sound that many guitarists have sought. As such is the case, Marshall began working on a project with the iconic guitar player that recreates just that: the Marshall AFD100.
Slash has had a long working association with Marshall. One amplifier model in particular, the Marshall JCM 2555SL, was released in honor of Slash back in 1996. As for this new AFD100, Marshall history dictates that the particular amp used during the Appetite for Destruction recording sessions was a hod-rodded, hand-wired, 100-Watt, pre-master volume model from the early 70s. After having been "stolen" in accordance to Slash's recollection, the amp was no longer to be found except in the memory of the guitarist and his fans.
Attempting to recapture the sound of one of the most important rock albums of the 1980s, Marshall is taking its time in developing the Marshall AFD100 with Slash. The "magic" Marshall head is starting bit by bit to become a reality as Marshall aims to have it release later this 2010. Updates on the progress of this amp's development from the drawing board to the stage can be followed through the Marshall AFD100's website.
