AcmeBarGig Shred 1.02 FB2: FrankenAMP Technology Surfaces
Posted on Saturday, February 06 @ 23:00:00 CST by admin

Electronic Music Last year, Ken McLaren from AcmeBarGig proclaimed that he was about to take on a project that could be described as the ultimate guitar amp simulation. Not only did he say it would be able to emulate classic amplifiers, it would also provide a way for users to construct their own amplifiers from scratch. The project was once dubbed the FrankenAMP. Fans of AcmeBarGig long awaited for this project to take fruit. The year 2010 just saw the working version of the technology behind FrankenAMP in the AcmeBarGig Shred 1.02 FB2.

If you were wondering about the last three characters of the release, FB2 stands for "Facebook 2". Initially, Ken had distributed the Shred 1.01 beta version through AcmeBarGig fans who are registered on Facebook. Shred 1.02 FB2 is said to be the final version of Shred with no plans of adding any further functionality except expanding the available presets. What is there to ask for if you've got a very comprehensive package that allows you to create your own amp anyway?

Shred 1.02 FB2 is designed to be the most flexible VST amp emulation that exists. It still has the stock heads such as Marvel, Quarter, Shred, and others that allows users to instantly rock with tones ranging from classic rock sounds to modern-day metal and everything else in between. More than just that, it still offers effects as well as cabinet emulation, mic placement, room acoustics, and everything else that finicky guitarists would want to modify. As it is the latest version, it has the following latest features:
    • Main Input Level Learn - With this feature, you can now make Shred "learn" more about your main input level so that it can optimize the input level setting. Whether it's a quiet or a very loud guitar, Shred will be able to adjust accordingly and still allow users to have crushing tones as well as crystal clear cleans no matter the input level. You have to play your guitar normally though during the process or else it will think your guitar is too quiet and push the level way up high to blow your speakers to uselessness.
    • Customize Head - This unique feature is AcmeBarGig's manifestation of the promised FrankenAMP technology. The Customize Head dialog allows you to select which gain section, tonestack, power amp, and digital audio correction to use. In short, you can now create your very own fantasy amp head.
    • Pickup Replacer - Shred now incorporates the previous AcmeBarGig release called RedShift. Whether you have single coils or humbuckers, the Pickup Replacer replicates the behavior of various kinds of pickups such as Lipstick and others.
The AcmeBarGig Shred 1.02 FB, as said earlier, has been announced as probably the final version. People will most likely see succeeding versions packaged wih Acoustica Mixcraft 5. It's rare to see a software amplifier simulation that puts customization into the hands of users just as handmade amplifier makers would do, let alone the fact that it is freeware. It would be a good idea to secure a copy for yourself in order to harness that creative spirit along with your compulsion to Shred.
