Akai Professional APC20: Another Ableton Live Controller Introduced

If we talk about DAWs, Ableton Live has the distinction of being similar to the hottest girl in town, with many manufacturers trying to come up with the best controller for it. Even though it was Novation who eventually got Ableton's stamp of approval as the manufacturer of the official Ableton Live controller called Launchpad, Akai isn't giving up yet in an attempt to create something better for dear Live. Following the footsteps of APC40, the Akai Professional APC20 has been launched.
The APC20 features the same multicolor 8x5 button Session View matrix, eight faders, and two-way communication with Ableton Live that characterized the APC40. This time though, all of those features were crammed into a smaller footprint. The APC20 has three modes of operation, built-in customization features, as well as a couple of new tricks up its sleeve.
Space issues can be easily resolved by the APC20 as it retains the 40-button grid within a smaller space requirement. The APC20 can also serve as an upgrade for APC40 owners as it can provide a bigger 80-button interface with the APC20's "Combination Mode". In "Note Mode" the APC20 can send MIDI data instead of launching Session View clips. The APC20's faders can be easily switched between controlling pan or multiple sends without the need for mapping. The APC20 is still highly customizable with its MIDI mapping function.
The Akai Professional APC20 will become available by the second quarter of 2010 and will be packaged with Ableton Live 8 Akai Professional APC Edition. Pricing is still TBA.
