Detunized.Com La Ramona Synthesizers: The East German Answer To the Minimoog

If you key in the words "analog synthesizer" in Google, the first sponsored link you will see would be Moog Music Inc. In the western hemisphere, ask any synth fanatic about analog synthesizers and Moog's name will once again spring up. If you go and talk to Dresden local and musical instrument salvage expert Stephan Marche about analog synths, he might say Moog or Buchla but he will mention one of his local favorites called the Vermona Synthesizer. While the Vermona Synthesizer is very much your basic analog synthesizer with very plasticky keys that some folks say has really terrible action, Stephan reincarnates the same East German classic as the Detunized.Com "La Ramona Synthesizers".
The "La Ramona Synthesizers" is an Ableton Live Pack that is based on the Vermona Synthesizer. According to Stephan, "Ramona" is a common name in Germany hence it is well suited for this instrument, an instrument that is representative of working-class East Germany. As such is the case, the "La Ramona Synthesizers" has three instruments representative of the former GDR's coat of arms: "Hammer", "Zirkel", and "Aehrenkranz".
The first instrument of the La Ramona Synthesizers is "Hammer". Needing no further translation for English readers, it is well suited for creating of atmospheres (ala Vangelis or Klaus Schulze) and textures, analogous to the way noises come out from a hammer striking various surfaces.
Those who are looking for some bass have to go with "Zirkel", which is similar to a 303 bass synth. "Zirkel" a.k.a. the compass is aptly named as bass gives you direction for your music, much in the manner of how you would draw a perfect circle with a compass. The cryptically named "cool" knobs allow you to adjust Zirkel's sound from standard punchy bass to even a formant-enhanced bass timbre.
The most complex tool in the La Ramona Synthesizers collection is the "Aehrenkranz". Taking the name etymologically and literally, it will translate as "a garland of ears", (Anybody who speaks German here is now cued to correct this statement) right? Of course, in a more contextual sense, the former GDR's emblem has a ring of corn so it should be "a garland of ears of corn". Anyway, why is "Aehrenkranz" like a garland of corn? It is the most versatile of the whole bunch, being that it can be fitted with 133 different oscillators that enables users to create a whole gamut of Vermona sounds.
