The Bridge: Linking Ableton Live and Serato Itch

If there is one piece of digital gear that DJs want to have, that would be the DJ controller Serato ITCH. If there is one DAW that can be used to churn out stuff live, it's Ableton Live. Putting the two together can bring a DJs performance to great heights. Ableton and Serato collaborated to make this a reality with an appropriately named device called "The Bridge".
Featured in Winter NAMM 2010, "The Bridge" is said to span the gap between music production and the art of the DJ. It is a device that creates a natural link between Ableton Live and Serato Scratch Live/ITCH. As such, the capabilities of both items can be utilized to their full extent via a seamless link.
"The Bridge" works as a two-way communication device. From Ableton to Serato, "The Bridge" can provide Ableton Transport Control (ATC) to provide turntable-style control of multitrack productions. A Live Set can be simply dragged to one of the decks in Scratch Live or ITCH and the turntables can take over control of Live's transport.
From Serato to Ableton, "The Bridge" facilitates the creation of a mixtape maker. DJs can now perform mixes using Serato Scratch Live or ITCH and can save these performances as Ableton Live Sets. This opens up a way to both perform a mix better than by just doing it on Live as well as offers detailed editing options.
While "The Bridge" is still unavailable, this item will be made available for free to owners of Serato Scratch Live/ITCH hardware and Ableton Live 8 or Suite 8. For progress on "The Bridge" project, users can subscribe to http://www.ableton.com/newsletter for updates.
